Ascension (April 2014)

Bare volcanic landscape

In contrast to Saint Helena, Ascension is very dry, hense most of the land is barren. The only green is found on its summit logically named "Green peak".
The first settlers on the island were lacking water. On the advice of Charles Darwin, they imported plants to grow in addition to the original vegetation on Green Peak. This "Rain forest" is able to catch more humidity, and therefore making water run from foliage to artificially build ponds.
