Work on Le Maméju (March 2013)The engineer and his prototype | | As we had been talking about getting more solar power on Le Maméju for a long time, we started looking for suppliers as soon as we came to Maryborough before Christmas. We easely found the panels that were fitting good to our boat, now the trouble was to fabricate the frame to mount them on the back of Le Maméju. In Brisbane, before flying to Europe, chance had us meet a boat owner, Jim, docked in Brisbane who needed help with some French translation. As Jim was a skillful welder, he agreed to help us build the aluminium frame we needed for the panels. As soon as we came back from New Zealand, Fred spent a day with Jim to weld the frame. With its 2,4 meter lenght, we were lucky that our friends Mark and Jenny happily carried the frame around in their car, untill we were ready to take the bus back to Maryborough. Just one example of the great hospitality we received from Condesa while in Brisbane, many thanks!
At the bus, it took some negotiation with the bus driver to take the frame, but after listening to our story of how we got the frame fabricated, he accepted our precious cargo in the end. |
